Who is Stitching Hearts Worldwide?

Our History

In 2016 the nonprofit humanitarian group, Stitching Hearts Worldwide's founder, Krysti Wright, wanted to find a way to make her quilting business more charitable.  She reached out to the quilting community around her and quickly found needs to be filled through the Launfal Foundation, Lifting Hands International, The United Way and other charitable organizations.  She contacted her friends and posted on Just Serve to recruit volunteers to help sew, envelope, tie, and bind quilts.  It quickly became apparent that there were many people who wanted to serve, but just didn't know where to start.

Krysti began organizing service events that provide supplies to make items that are desperately needed by the charities she works with. To this date SHW has helped with shipments sent internationally to Somalia, Lebanon, Jordan, Bangladesh, and Guatemala. Stitching Hearts Worldwide has also sent humanitarian supplies to Paradise, CA, Arizona, and more locally to Salt Lake City, UT and multiple locations in Utah Valley.

Stitching Hearts Worldwide applied for and was designated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity in 2019.  It has a four member board composed of Krysti Wright (executive director), Barbara Kodra (board member), Mark Einerson (board member), and Alicia H. Preece (secretary). Stitching Hearts also recruited 10 volunteers to help on consistent basis of sewing, pinning, and preparing supplies.

In 2020 we are redoubling our efforts to help the victims of the 2018 Paradise Fire in Paradise, California by providing quilts, quilting supplies, and providing service events for them to help themselves and others. We are excited about the growth and possibility of service we have found to help those around the world.

What We Do

Stitching Hearts Worldwide is a nonprofit organization who provides the equipment and materials for all sized groups to make humanitarian relief items that will be sent to those displaced from their homes because of fire, natural disasters, and political unrest around the world.

We make tied quilts, plastic bag sleeping mats, pillows, backpacks for school and hygiene kits, baby receiving blankets, newborn nightgowns, dolls/hand puppets, educational games and toys to name a few.  We design new items from donated, re-purposed raw materials to satisfy humanitarian needs. We've learned that many youth, adults and seniors have great desires to serve without the means to do so. We are pleased to provide volunteer opportunities for them all.

Stitching Hearts helps plan and organize service events providing all the materials, equipment, and onsite training skills needed for everyone to enjoy completing their projects.  We only ask for donations to help replenish our supplies for future service events. All donations are tax deductible.

In 2019 Stitching Hearts Worldwide began setting up satellite groups in Mesa, AZ, Boston, MA, and Paradise, CA. In 2020 we are anticipating adding 5 satellites across the United States.  We provide equipment, materials, and training for these remote groups and they donate all their finished products to local agencies and charities in their respective communities.

We invite those with willing hearts and hands to come volunteer and make a difference one stitch at a time!

Who We've Helped

2019 Paradise California Fire Refugees

Because of the loss of Krysti's childhood town, in Paradise, CA, due to the fire in 2018, Stitching Hearts Worldwide has made a continuing effort of sending quilts and other supplies to her hometown.  In 2019 we partnered with Stewart's RV in American Fork, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Humanitarian department, Magalia Community Church, and other agencies to provide RV's, quilts, batting,  and sewing machines to residents affected by this tragedy.

We sent a delivery of an RV packed with 300 quilts during Thanksgiving break 2019 with some gracious friends.  Krysti went out over Christmas break to make a final delivery for 2019.  She spent two days with our new partners at the Magalia Community Church and saw first hand the sorrow, hurt, and despair that the residents of this town still feel. They were so grateful for the beautiful quilts that were lovingly created and donated to them.

2018 Paradise California Campaign

Stitching Hearts Worldwide's founder, Krysti, had her childhood home destroyed in the Camp Fire in Paradise, CA. During November/December of 2018 we held multiple quilting bees and service events and sent over 300 quilts, along with other supplies just before Christmas.
